Why Sustainability Is Important

The term “sustainability” is more than just trendy word usage. There is a real purpose in applying principles and practices that have long-term positive effects on the local community and planet we inhabit. Sustainable practices are just that, they can be continued indefinitely. The goal is to minimize our negative impact on the ecosystems of this world while continuing to enjoy the brands we love by taking items that are routinely discarded and turning them into new products.

Hello, my name is Jailyn Bloodworth. I am a senior at Harper Middle College in Charlotte, North Carolina. I plan to continue my undergraduate education at High Point University. During my matriculation at the University, I plan to major in Criminal Justice.

One of the reasons I chose High Point University for the next stage of my education is the emphasis on the importance of entrepreneurship. I was introduced to the entrepreneurial life at a very young age and have learned a lot since. Currently, I serve as the Vice President of Student Engagement in my family business ERM Solutions LLC.. Our company is a certified minority company focused on providing environmental solutions to socially responsible corporations by offering merchandise re-purposed from their own recyclable products. Our team has developed over 100 everyday products made from plastic and Styrofoam materials, i.e. name tags, aprons, pens, uniforms and park benches.

My purpose of writing this letter is to propose a program that will assist High Point University with helping the planet, and also help financially support me through my journey in college. I would like to sell t-shirts and promotional products made from post-consumer plastic bottles to clubs, student organizations, alumni, the Department of Criminal Justice, and other potential venues.
